Setting up CarbonOne Safe takes seconds: you just plug it in. Picking the right spots makes it even more useful. Here is a simple plan.
The seller suggests placing units:
Most homes use 2 to 4 units.
Plug the unit straight into a standard wall outlet, not into an extension cord. It turns on by itself. There are no buttons to press and no app to set up.
The screen shows the live CO level in parts per million (ppm). In a normal home it should read 0 or close to it. You will also see the temperature and humidity, and lights for power, fault and alarm.
| Good spots | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Hallway outside bedrooms | Right next to the stove or fireplace (cooking can cause false alarms) |
| Near the furnace or water heater room | Bathrooms and very damp areas |
| Living room or main floor | Behind furniture or curtains |
| Each floor of the home | Outlets controlled by a light switch |
Propane is heavier than air and settles low down, so a low wall outlet near a propane appliance is a good spot. Natural gas is lighter than air and rises, so follow your gas company's advice for natural gas alarms too.
For the best protection, keep UL 2034-listed carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area and on every level, as the CPSC recommends. CarbonOne Safe adds an easy live reading near your gas appliances.
